Stevenage continues to show it is a great place to invest with the arrival of leading British brand, Debenhams, who are opening their latest store on Thursday 24 August at the Roaring Meg retail park.

Gail Chandler, store manager said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming the local Stevenage community to the store. The majority of the store’s 80 employees have been recruited from within the local area and they will play a central role in ensuring that customers receive the standards they have grown to expect from Debenhams.”

The new store provides a great opportunity for people visiting Stevenage to not just visit Roaring Meg but to also continue the great shopping experience in the Town Centre at Next, H&M, Primark or any number of other great stores or to come and take a walk through the historic Old Town with its many shops and restaurants.

With the regeneration plans for the Town Centre in full swing and a developer to be announced at the end of the year, Stevenage is demonstrating that it’s a place with great demand for both retailers and developers.

The Town Centre regeneration plans include shops, restaurants and cafes, new housing, public realm with new seating areas, a video wall, coloured lighting on shop fascia's and the reintroduction of the iconic Mondrian style across the town square.

Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council says “The opening of Debenhams in Stevenage is a great addition to our offering across the borough.  I very much look forward to all the development opportunities that Stevenage will see in the next few years.”

Phil Huby of Aberdeen Asset Management said: “I am delighted that the opening of Debenhams is here, ahead of the scheduled date of October.

“Debenhams is a brand steeped in retail history and we’re thrilled to welcome it into the Roaring Meg retail mix. Not only has it brought fantastic employment opportunities to Stevenage, but its arrival demonstrates that the town continues to be an attractive location to large retailers.”
